This Week In Gaming (TWIG) #5

Goooood day readers and welcome back to another issue of This Week In Gaming. This roundup has a good little run of content but first I want to start with the removal of Plague Inc. from the Chinese app store. This happened today (which dates my writing of this to the night before so forgive any errors) and is cited as being done due to ‘illegal content’ and there is no information on if it is related to the coronavirus or not. Interesting timing at the very least.

Speaking of the coronavirus, game developers around the world are pulling out of events, most noticeably PAX East and GDC. Prominent developers include, Sony, CD Projekt Red, and PUBG Corp. from PAX and Microsoft, Unity, Kojima Productions, EA, and Facebook leaving GDC this year. In other news on a sad note before hitting on some other better game news, the creator of the Konami Code Kazuhisa Hashimoto died at 61 years old.

Game news has really been plagued this week by all of the companies pulling out of conventions for health concerns so instead of my typical researched and sourced stories this is going to have more a personal experience. Lately I’ve hopped back into The Division 2 and while there isn’t a ton of content available at this moment I have still had a lot of fun picking back up on it. I wish the game was less intensive on my computer but it really is a pretty game and playing it solo makes me think through all of my choices. Even with infinite pistol ammo drawn out combat feels lethal as I run out of ammo, doing my best with well placed high damage shots from my specialist sniper rifle. The game has had a number of very nice quality of life overhauls to help people looking to streamline their grind. Particularly my favorite has been the targeted gear system. Each day gear types are assigned to specific missions and areas making it easier to get the brand of gear or type of weapon that you want so that you work less overall. I am excited for the coming update and yet again, the game is 3 dollars right now. If at any point you have wanted to try it this is the time, hop in with your friends and give it a shot. I’m making it the recommended game this week as well if that’s any more reason to check it out.

In other news one of my top games that I own right now Star Wars Battlefront II just launched its newest update with new weapons, new reinforcement classes, as well as finally adding new Co-op content. This new content for Co-op added in the Galactic Civil War (Empire v Rebels for you non story fans) as well as games on the main command ships for the Clones and Separatists. The content has been super fun and seeing some more well known and iconic locations from the Original Trilogy has really brought a new breath of life into the game. This game has has come leaps and bounds since its original launch and is a title I would thoroughly recommend to anyone looking for a Star Wars style shooter.

Beyond the announcement that Cyberpunk 2077 will offer a free next generation upgrade for players who purchase on the Xbox One before the Series X release that is all I really have for this week. Been a long week at work of doing things so I really didn’t have the time to hop into this like normal but now its time for the game recommendation.

The Division 2 is a solid title currently at $3 and even free to play where you keep your progress if you buy before the DLC releases on 3/3/2020. The game had a slight dry spell of content early on after release but definitely has a good chunk to complete, McCoy called it “Good Content, slow to act developer.” Which was true early on for the looter shooter game trying to be better than its predecessor. All in all I would call it successful at its goal and is a fun game.
